First time waxing? The honest version
- Let the hair grow to about 1/4 inch — two or three weeks after your last shave. Shorter than that and the wax has nothing to grip.
- The pull lasts a second. For most people the wait beforehand turns out worse than the wax itself.
- Come with clean skin: no lotion or oil that day. Afterwards, skip saunas, pools and intense workouts for 24 hours — sweat on open follicles is what irritates.
- A razor buys you two days. Waxing takes the hair from the root, so you stay smooth for 3–4 weeks, and it grows back finer and sparser every time.
- Private room, licensed professional, and the whole appointment in English or Spanish — whichever you are comfortable in.
