First time waxing? The honest version

1. Let the hair grow to about 1/4 inch — two or three weeks after your last shave. Shorter than that and the wax has nothing to grip.
2. The pull lasts a second. For most people the wait beforehand turns out worse than the wax itself.
3. Come with clean skin: no lotion or oil that day. Afterwards, skip saunas, pools and intense workouts for 24 hours — sweat on open follicles is what irritates.
4. A razor buys you two days. Waxing takes the hair from the root, so you stay smooth for 3–4 weeks, and it grows back finer and sparser every time.
5. Private room, licensed professional, and the whole appointment in English or Spanish — whichever you are comfortable in.
